Getting motivated to get into shape and start living healthier can be hard to do. Especially when you start making excuses for why you’re still not getting the ball rolling or staying on track once you do. And it would seem that the same ones are always being used. Here are some of the most commonly used excuses for why it is too difficult to workout and reasons why they don’t work.
1.Time- The most common excuse used is that you don’t have enough time. I get it, you have a lot going on between work and the kids and social lives and other obligations. It can be hard to fit a workout in. But while you’re standing in line at the bank, why not do a few heel raises. Or when you’re watching T.V. at home you can do some squats. When you’re in the kitchen getting dinner ready why not do some hip abductions? It doesn’t always have to be a full workout routine that takes an hour or more. A few sets squeezed in here and there can go a long way.
2.I’m Too Tired- Working out actually releases endorphins in your body that increase energy in the body as well as increases blood circulation that can help wake you up as well. So if you are tired, working out can help solve that problem.
3.It’s Boring- There are so many different ways to exercise. You can do fun activities such as biking, playing a sport, swimming. Do you like to dance? Take a class or just rock out at home. Get your body moving doing something you enjoy, it doesn’t matter if it’s at the gym or with equipment. Have fun!
4.My Body Hurts- Often times, when someone says their back hurts all the time or the often have shoulder pain, etc…, the problem stems from lack of strength and support from the surrounding muscles. Daily exercise or time spent in physical therapy can actually decrease the pain in your body and make you stronger. Also remember that physical activity increases endorphins which can decrease pain levels.
5.I Don’t Like The Gym- A lot of people don’t like the process of going to the gym, or feel it’s too expensive, or feel like they are being judged at the gym. These are completely understandable feelings and concerns. The good news? You don’t need to go to the gym to workout. But I don’t have any equipment to work out with. You don’t need any equipment either. Sure a few dumbbells would be helpful but you can use your own body weight for a full body workout. Push ups, squats, lunges, crunches, burpees, etc… all done without any equipment and can be done in the own comfort of your home.
Feeling more motivated now? We are often our own worst enemies and get in our own way. So stop coming up with excuses and start moving.
