Massage is one of the oldest and best ways to maintain good health. Effective therapy for healing and detoxifying the body, massage is the intentional and systematic therapeutic manipulation of the human body’s soft tissues and muscular structure in order to stimulate circulation, relaxation, ease tension, manage pain, and nurture rehabilitation of injuries or muscle fatigue. Massage Therapists manipulate the soft tissue using their hands, fingers, arms, or elbows. Joint movement and stretching are often integrated into the practice of massage therapy. A local application of a cold or hot pack over a covered body segment may be used during the session.
A general recommendation is to receive an hour or more of massage at least once a month for a healthier body and mind, and a sense of well-being.
1 \ Myofascial Release and Corrective Movement Pattern Therapy
helps release sensitivity and tension in the connective tissue which extends throughout the body to provide support and protection to your muscles and bones. Through gentle, sustained pressure in massage and posture correction, myofascial release helps you experience reduced pain and increased balance.
2 \ Clinical/Orthopedic Massage
provides a functional assessment of the client and individualized massage sessions according to the recipient’s activity, his or her present condition, and his or her stated needs. Massages and treatment plans are adjusted based on the client’s response to the treatment. Clinical massage can include rehabilitation treatment for back, leg, and hip pain, sciatic nerve pain, pinched nerves, shoulder pain, whiplash and neck pain. Clinical massage may use techniques like Connective Tissue Massage, Neuro-Fascial Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapies, or Scar Tissue Massage to help the body recover.
3 \ Deep Tissue Massage
uses firm pressure to directly reach deeper layers of muscle. This form of massage is good for relieving tense and scarred muscle fibers and can bring more blood flow to areas of pain.
4 \ Sports Massage
is a type of massage therapy focused on recovering and/or preparing the body for physical activity. It can focus on parts of the body that are overused or stressed from repetitive movement. This massage is a manual manipulation of the tissue to enhance performance in sports, competitions, or other physical activities. It can improve flexibility, increase circulation, and reduce the risk of injury.
5 \ PNF Stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation)
is a deep tissue-focused treatment technique developed in the mid-twentieth century by physical therapists and neurophysiologists. PNF relies on reflexes to produce deeper stretches that increase flexibility and range of motion within the neuromuscular system. PNF stretching techniques are done passively or as active-assisted. The two main types of PNF stretching, also called relaxation techniques, are hold-relax and contract-relax. This technique can be done as a separate session or can be incorporated into a massage.
6 \ Oncology Massage
is a very safe and gentle therapy specifically tailored for clients who have experienced complications from cancer or cancer treatment. Typical massage therapy techniques are adjusted for safe use on clients who may experience anxiety, pain, fatigue, or nausea from cancer treatment, may have fragile tissue, tumour sites, blood clots, medical devices, or other relevant health factors.
7 \ Prenatal Massage
during pregnancy is a wonderful and safe complementary choice for prenatal care. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy such as backaches, stiff necks, leg cramps, headaches and oedema (or swelling). Prenatal massage also reduced stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension to aid in better sleep, and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
