Six Ways to Boost Your Metabolism!

With your goals set for 2014 on becoming a healthier better you, here are a few secrets to help you to keep pushing forward in your progress. Boosting your metabolism will help you in more ways than just losing weight, by giving it a kick start you will notice that your energy levels increase as well as your endorphin’s (the more released endorphin’s in your body the happier or shall i say better mood you will be in). Listed below are six ways to give your metabolism a kick start and kick that plateau to the curb.

1. Eat the right amount of calories:

Metabolism is the chemical process in the body that converts the food you eat into fuel. As a result, you get the energy that keeps you going each day. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the number of calories per day your body naturally burns at rest. Knowing your number is important because it means you’ll be aware of exactly how many calories to consume to maintain your weight (or lose or gain, if needed).

2. Calculate your calorie burn:

Sitting around all day wont burn you any calories and get you any closer to your goal. Now and days everyone obtains a smart phone and if you do not own a smart phone do some research online, download an app to calculate the amount of calories you burn on a daily basis. These activities can start from a pedometer calculating your daily walking, any gym sessions you’ve completed, along with household chores such as laundry, excessive cleaning, and vacuuming. Your result is the number of calories per day you need to maintain your current weight. Want to lose? Shave 500 extra calories a day by eating less, working out more or, ideally, doing a combo. You’ll drop 1 to 2 pounds per week.

3. Make workouts a regular thing:

Doing cardio exercises 3-5 times a week is associated with a higher metabolic rate at rest. To beak this down for you, for those 30-45 min of sweat and hard

work you hauled in the gym will benefit you outside during your daily routines. By adding cardio to your routine your body is burning above and beyond what it would have, had you not pushed yourself in the gym.

4. Don’t blow off lifting:

A pound of muscle burns more calories than a pound of fat up to nine times the amount!

5. Never yo-yo diet:

You’ll hamstring your metabolism by going on and off diets and healthy eating habits. You may start to see results thinking you can return to your old routines but in doing so you’ll gain fat back rather than muscle which will slow down your metabolism.

6. Have a bedtime snack:

Believe it or not it’s true! This does not mean eat the bag of chips or cookies before bed, a healthy snack (no more than 100 calories) an hour or two before bed can boost your metabolism in the morning along with drinking 8-16 floz right when you rise. Eating a bedtime snack only applies if you exercise regular but be sure to constantly drink water when you wake up and throughout your day.

You are given the same amount of time during the day as Albert Einstein, Michael Angelo, Kerri Walsh, Sandra Bullock, etc but it’s how you use that time is what counts! Never stop moving, watch what you eat, and remember that this is a way of life, a healthy lifestyle there is no end date.
